Testimonials

Paul Gussack and his wife, Allison Gussack, DVM have taken their dogs, Bella and Katzel, to stay at Nip It In the Bud and have become friends with Mrs. Zopfi.

"She's really, honestly, the only person we can leave our dogs with," Mr. Gussack said.  "She is in my will.  If anything happens to my wife or me, she gets the dogs.  That is how much trust we put in Mary."

My daughter has a black lab who is 3 years old.  She has always been such a lovable dog, buy she was completely unmanageable.  Her strength enabled her to pull us when we attempted to walk her, and she jumped on everyone she was near.  This was her way of showing affection.  Suddenly one day we realized that she had become a 'backyard dog'...confined within a 6-foot high wooden fence because of her boisterous behavior.  It occurred to my daughter that this wasn't much of a life for her dog.  She heard about "Nip It In The Bud" and sent her precious dog there for residential training (also known as 'Boot Camp').  We are so amazed at the changes after a month's training.
  • She walks beautifully on a leash
  • She comes in the house and enjoys the family (she sits, stays, leaves things alone on command...just to name a few things she has learned)
  • She rides in the car without a bulky pet crate
  • She knows how to "wait"
  • She doesn't jump on us as soon as we're in reach...she waits for us to invite her to us
These are just a few of the things she has learned.  The most important thing resulting from this training is the fact that she can enjoy us and we can enjoy her.  In short, Mary taught her manners.  I have come to think of Mary's Nip It In The Bud as the ultimate charm school for doggies.

About 5 years ago I brought a 'sickly' looking dog home from Bryan College.  (they were going to euthanize (sp?) her the next day)  She had 6 puppies (out of 8) that were still alive.  Why people 'drop off' dogs.... O.K. -- I won't go there....Anyway, I prayed for this dog and her pups, hoping someone would take her home.  I had no idea at the time it was going to be me! I managed to get her pups into the back of my van -- she followed hesitantly.

Once she was home I CALLED MARY!!!  She came immediately -- checked her out -- brought some medicines for her, and told me how malnourished she really was.  (eating pizza scraps from the students while carrying pups?)  She was so weak.  Mary also told me that she was part Pitt Bull.  AHHAAAAHHHHH!!  Too late, she had already SO won my heart -- and the pups were adorable. Four days after we took in the 7 dogs, I had a family emergency in PA which took me away for 2 weeks.  Mary came to my house EVERY DAY at 6 am to check on the pups (and Lady, their Mom).  My daughter took the noon watch and our neighbor the evening watch.  Now that's DEDICATION.  When I can home the pups were a real source of comfort for me and after they were weaned and we had found good homes for them.  Then, Mary TRAINED Lady!  She's powerful, protective, obedient, and OH so loving.  I have no idea how all of this would have turned out if it were not for Mary and 'Nip it in the Bud'.

An ADDED PLUS -- I've always 'dreaded' going on vacation or visiting family because I'd have to leave Lady in a kennel.  No longer.  Mary's cage free boarding is PERFECT.  (Sometimes I think Lady prefers to be at Mary's because she has so many other 'dog friends' to play with.)  If we ever move from this area -- the hardest part of the move will be convincing Mary to move her entire business and resettle wherever we do.

Nip It -Mary has such passion and love for the dogs; she is amazing! I first met her 6 years ago when she was highly recommended to train my border collie.  This past Christmas, we added Cleo a 13 month chocolate lab to our family and I immediately called Nip It to schedule training. Cleo enjoys staying at Aunt Mary's house when we are out of town.  Nip It’s facility is nested in a beautiful country setting with serene surroundings.  The interior rooms where the dogs stay uncaged, are colorfully decorated and furnished with the pets in mind.

A typical scene when you drive up, is to see Roadway, Mary’s Great Dane “down” on the sofa while the other doggie occupants are looking out the windows to see who will be joining them!

Nip it in the Bud's Mary Zopfi and her staff get excellent results with their various training programs, both group and individual.  She has made a difference with both my 7 yr old female boxer Spirit who suffers from fear based anxiety and my 18 mo old male boxer who suffers from being a puppy and himself.  Mary and her staff are totally professional but personally involved which gives an owner of "furry children" relief that help is on the way.  Spirit is now able to deescalate and enjoy socializing with people and avoid taking on trouble with other canines.  Rocky while still full of himself is excepting discipline and might become a little gentleman yet.

I contacted Mary when my German Shepard was only 10 weeks old.  Molly was a firecracker of a pup and full of energy.  Molly was very smart (smarter than me I could tell right off) and the most beautiful animal I’d ever had!  Molly’s favorite pastime was to chew on any finger, toe or nose that she could get her furry paws and jaws on!  I tried everything I knew to stop her but Molly acted as if we were walking rawhides....  I called Mary and begged her to help me with this sweet but seemingly crazed dog!  I will say that we are able to laugh about it today.

Mary spent weeks with Molly training her on standard (and some amazing) commands.  Mary and Molly bonded instantly and for a lifetime.  Most importantly, Mary spent time with me to "train" me!  I think that is what really made the difference – the connection Mary fostered between the pet and the owner.

To this day, all I have to say to Molly is “Wanna go see Mary?” and she’s dancing in circles ready to go see her “other mom”!

Molly is now 6 years old with excellent behavior.  Many who meet Molly comment that she is amazingly well behaved.  I simply reply “that’s because we NIPped IT in the Bud!
