Dog Training Classes

(picture taken of Drew the night before
returning to Southeastern Guide Dogs)
Our training provides pet owners with numerous options
including one-on-one lessons, group sessions (complete with graduation
ceremony!) in-home instruction and on site residential training.
We are happy to offer training while your loved one boards with us
as well---and don't forget about the trick classes!!
"The key to
effective dog training is for the owners to master the proper
communication techniques with their animals"
While boarding we incorporate the dogs' daily routine with fun and
training -- and peanut butter. The perfect time to reward the dog
is when he/she sits quietly. They learn quickly that the faster
they sit, the quieter they are, the quicker they get peanut butter.

Puppy Socialization Classes:
For Puppies 8 weeks of age to 6 months (and their owners).
This class helps pups gain self-confidence when dealing with
"anxieties" of life. They are introduced to people as well as
other pups/dogs. The timid ones are taught that life is not
THAT scary. OR, for the larger breeds, they are taught that
smaller dogs are their friends (not snacks!) The owners will
be taught basic handling techniques and help with individual
problems that they may be having with their own puppy. Great
group therapy for the owners as well!! Puppyhood is
challenging---get them off to a great start
-
Beginning
Obedience Classes: For Dogs 6 months of age and
older (and their owners). This class helps pups/dogs master
their basic obedience commands such as sit, down, stay, come and
leash work (not to pull, auto-sit when owner stops walking, etc.)
It teaches the basic commands that help ensure that the dog is
really "man's best friend".
-
Advance
Obedience Classes: For Dogs 6 months of age and
older (and their owners) who have already completed their basic
obedience course. This class includes distractions, off leash
work, and Off-site "field" trips to add diversity. This class
teaches dogs to stay focused on their owner at all times and not
just when the owner is close enough to correct them.
-
In Home Residential
Training: This course actually involves your dog doing
a residency with a certified trainer who will work one on one with
them. The trainer will teach all of the information that they
would normally learn in the above mentioned classes and much more.
Because the dog will be working one on one with an experienced dog
trainer, they will learn much faster and more extensively usually
than other dogs. After they have finished their course, then
the dog and the owner will be trained together to ensure that they
are both "speaking the same language". This course will come
with a total of (3) private follow-up lessons (if needed) to keep both the owner
and the dog working well together.
